Cutty Sark, Clipper Ship - Academy 14110
This is a model kit of one of the most well-known sailing ships in history. Cutty Sark was one of the fastest sailing ships ever built and she transported tea and wool across the ocean until being replaced by steamships. The Cutty Sark takes her name from a Robbie Burns poem in which a young man becomes enamored with a witch wearing a seductive chemise, or the titular Cutty Sark. Constructed in the shipyards of Dumbarton, the Cutty Sark was a swift clipper ship that sailed with 32,000 square feet of canvas on her masts. Its maximum speed exceeded 17 knots, a feat that gave her an edge during the tea trade from China to London. She was docked in 1957 at Greenwich and is currently a tourist attraction. A fire in 2007 nearly saw her reduced to ashes, but a complete restoration is in the works. This kit faithfully recreates Cutty Sark, the famous clipper ship in 1/350 scale. The fully assembled model is 20.32cm long.
