Description
The F-86 Saber is
a jet fighter developed as a successor to the P-51D Mustang, and
the prototype XP-86 made its first flight on October 1, 1947.
The F-86E was an improved version of the first mass-produced F-86A, equipped with a J
-47-GE-13 engine, improved control equipment, and a
movable horizontal stabilizer. Further improvements were made based
on the lessons learned from the air battle with the 15 .
This is the F-86F, which first flew in March 1952. It is
powered by a J-47-GE-27, has a thrust of 2,760 kg,
and is armed with six 12.7 mm machine guns, as well as
various missiles and bombs mounted under the main wings. Moreover,
bulletproofing was strengthened, and midway through production, the leading edge slats on the main wings were abolished, the
chord was lengthened slightly, and boundary layer plates were installed
to prevent wing tip stall.
This is the F-86F-25 and -35.
As a result, the F-86F had better combat performance than the MiG-15, and
was able to achieve great results in the latter stages of the Korean War, but
later, this extended-chord type (generally 6-3 leading edge We found
that using a leading edge slat in conjunction with the wing (referred to as a wing)
provides better maneuverability at all speeds, so
we reinstalled the leading edge slat.
This is known as the F-86F-40.
The F-86F-40 was the main model adopted by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force from 1956 (Showa 31), and it was the later model with leading edge slats that
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries domestically produced. The small number of aircraft that were provided were equipped with old-style boundary layer plates, and some, like the RF-86F, were modified by the Japanese side to have leading edge slats. The Air Self-Defense Force had over 330 F-86Fs, including those provided by the US military, those produced by knockdown production, and those manufactured under license by Mitsubishi .
