Description
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat
is the U.S. Navy's flagship carrier-based fighter.
Equipped with an AWG-9 fire control system, the F-14 can
acquire targets approximately 100 miles away and track up to 24 targets. Furthermore, it has an unrivaled multi-target simultaneous processing capability that allows six of them to attack simultaneously with AIM-54 Phoenix missiles (maximum range of approximately 185 km).
Another feature is the use of variable swept wings.
This variable wing uses a Mach Sweep program computer
to change the sweep angle of the main wing so that the optimal lift-drag ratio is always achieved.
In addition, the swept back angle for storage is 75°,
making it easier to maneuver on the carrier deck.
The D type is the latest model, and the engine was replaced with a General Electric F-110-GE-400 and
the fire control system was replaced with an APG-71 to improve performance.
