Description
When cargo ships call at the port of destination after thousands of nautical miles, there is still a difficult section ahead of them. This is where the harbor tugboats come into play, taking command and pulling the huge ships safely to the pier. The tugboats do not take on cargo, but are used to haul and manoeuvre large tankers and cargo ships. The small, robust, but very manoeuvrable ships have a very powerful engine from 250 to several thousand horsepower. Their command bridges are designed as high superstructures in order to guarantee a good all-round view for safe guidance through the narrow port area. The stern, bow and side walls are usually reinforced and additionally equipped with wickerwork.
