Description
Tempest V - Academy 12466
The Hawker Tempest Mk.V started missions with the RAF in 1944. Typhoon squadrons transitioned to Tempests before D-Day. Compared to the Typhoon, the Tempest possessed a better range and could linger in the combat zone far more extensively, conducting calculated offensives against the Germans in the occupied areas of Europe. At low and medium altitudes, the Tempest proved itself as one of the fastest Allied fighters. Following the Normandy landings, the Tempest squadrons were utilized as a defense against the V-1 "Doodlebug" flying bomb. The Hawker Tempest V asserted itself as an effective V-1 killer with effective weaponry rivaling the Luftwaffe's (the only exception being the Me262). Although the aircraft appeared late in the conflict, the Tempest V remains one of the best piston-engined aircraft of WWII. This Academy kit with over 55 plastic parts faithfully recreates the Tempest V in 1:72 scale.
