Description

The Fw190A series, which was developed as an auxiliary fighter for the Bf109 and
has become a masterpiece fighter that surpasses the Bf109, has a liquid-cooled Jumo 213 engine to compensate for the only weakness of the Fw190A
series, which is that the engine power suddenly decreases when climbing above 6,000m.
The D series equipped with this aircraft was developed, but
the improvement in high-altitude performance that was the goal was not sufficient.

However, due to its significantly improved flight performance at medium and low altitudes,
the Luftwaffe decided to adopt it as a new medium altitude fighter, and
production of the D-9, the first mass-produced D series, began in August 1944. .

There are 7 types of D series from D-9 to D-15 (including only plans), and
D-9 is the most produced type among them.
It was called the long-nosed Dora (LANGNASEN-DORA) because of its elongated nose, and
as the nose became longer, the rear fuselage was extended and the vertical tail became larger.
In addition, the D-9 late production model's canopy now
has his Garland Haube, which has a large bulge at the top, as standard equipment.

Papegeistaffel (Aum Squadron) was formed within the elite unit JV44 (44th Fighter Group) led by Lieutenant General Garland
as a unit that provides air cover during takeoff and landing of the Me262 jet fighter . The flashy red and white striped paint on the underside of the aircraft was intended to avoid accidental fire from allied anti-aircraft guns.
