Description

The F-15J Eagle
is the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's main interceptor fighter.

Japan's Air Self-Defense Force
is the third nation in the world to be equipped with Eagles, following the United States Air Force and Israel.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force, which had previously used the F-104J as an interceptor fighter,
investigated the FX as a successor to the F-104J.

Out of many candidate aircraft,
it was decided to adopt the F-15 on December 9, 1978, and
the first aircraft arrived at Gifu Base on March 27, 1981.

When first introduced, the Air Self-Defense Force's F-15J
was basically an aircraft equivalent to the U.S. Air Force's F-15C Block 26, with
some modifications unique to the Air Self-Defense Force.
This is due to the addition of the Self-Defense Force's own automatic warning and control organization (badge system) and high-speed data equipment (J/ASW-10 data link system) that
receives interception control from the E-2C early warning aircraft , and the addition of the vertical tail. The main modification was to change the antenna at the tip to a mass balance one.

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force first deployed the F-15J to Nyutabaru Air Base to
train pilots, and then
began deploying it to fighter wings in earnest.
Currently, the F-15J operates at 201 Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 202 Squadron (Nyutabaru Air Base),
203 Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 204 Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base), 303 Squadron (Komatsu Air Base), and
304 Squadron (Tsuki Air Base). )
and are deployed in seven squadrons of 305 Squadron (Hyakuri Base) .

Like the U.S. Air Force, the F-15J is undergoing a multi-stage improvement program (MSIP), with
equipment being improved and added to each year.
For this reason, the appearance has also changed, including the addition of a new antenna.
In addition, an aircraft that can carry the domestically produced AAM-3 air-to-air missile is also being modified.
The F-15J will serve as the Air Self-Defense Force's main fighter, and together with the FS-X, which will be developed in the future,
will play an active role in the defense of Japan's skies.
