Eight colorful paint schemes of the HO 60 ’ PS-1 boxcar are now available for Advance Reservation. Four of the schemes are old favorites, while the other four schemes are all new for InterMountain. All of these models feature laser sharp decoration, multiple road numbers, metal operating knuckle couplers, and precision InterMountain metal wheel sets. Please submit your advance reservations by August 31, so IMRC can determine interest in production.
Beginning in the 1960 ’s, automakers approached rail carriers with the desire for larger freight cars to transport auto parts from suppliers to manufacturing centers. In response, the 60 ’ auto parts boxcar was introduced. Carrying a wide variety of auto components including engine blocks, transmissions, brake drum, and others, these cars were a fixture throughout North America for the next four decades and can still be found in service today. As the auto industry supply chains consolidated, many of the 60 ’ boxcars were used in other markets and could be found hauling a variety of goods including appliances, paper goods, and cardboard.
