Description
Rapido Trains HO Scale EMD GP39 & EMD/Huntington SWMT Slug Set is patterned after the diesels equipped to work slugs for increased traction. The slugs were built in the railroad's own Huntington shops and features additional traction motors powered from the mother SD39 units. The EMD GP39 locomotive was unique in that it featured a 12-cylinder, turbocharged 645E3 prime mover - four less than its GP38 cousin. The largest purchaser of the GP39 was the Chesapeake & Ohio, ordering 20 locomotives. Upon the Chessie and Seaboard merger, the GP39s continued in local and yard service for CSX Transportation. While some locomotives and slugs would wear a variety of patch-out or early CSX schemes, most of the fleet was repainted into the YN2 scheme and eventually the current YN3 scheme. The HO Scale replica feature roadname-appropriate detailing and applied details for their scheme. The GP39 and the slug both feature dual flywheels and magnetic knuckle couplers and comes equipped with a 21-pin decoder interface for easy conversion to DCC when you're ready.
