Description
The Grumman X-29A ATD (Advanced Technology Demonstrator)
was developed as an experimental aircraft to test the practicality of forward-swept wing fighters.
A major feature of swept-wing aircraft is the forward-angled main wing, which
is made using the latest composite material technology.
It also has excellent maneuverability in all speed ranges during melee combat.
For this reason, the flight control system
uses the same digital fly-by-wire system as the Space Shuttle,
making calculations 40 times per second to maintain the aircraft's stability and maneuverability.
