Qantas Airways is the flagship of Australia and the third oldest airline in the
world. The Qantas name is the acronym for its original name, "Queensland
and Northern Territory Aerial Services". Qantas’ first Connie was used on the
Kangaroo route between London and Sydney in 1947, making Qantas the
first round-the-world airline. On January 14, 1958, two Qantas Super
Constellations left Melbourne, to begin the Qantas Round-the-World
Service, first visiting Sydney and then flying off in opposite directions, both
arriving back in Sydney on 20 January.
