UP Business Car “Cheyenne” (HO Scale)
Our next release in our popular series of Union Pacific business cars is #103 “Cheyenne”!
Built in 1956 as the five-bedroom lounge car Baker, it was rebuilt as business car No. 102 in 1965. In 1989 it was named “Cheyenne” to honor the city’s importance in Union Pacific history. UP built a large locomotive and rail car shop complex at Cheyenne, at the eastern base of Sherman Hill, whose summit is the highest point on UP’s main line.
The interior features a kitchen, a crew room that sleeps two, and a dining room that seats eight. The observation room seats six to eight. There are two bedrooms (sharing one bath) and a secretary room that sleeps one.
“Cheyenne” can be found on countless UP office car specials, business trains, steam excursions, and other promotional events. Many photos show this car bringing up the rear of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Train, a popular series of excursions sponsored by The Denver Post. The excursions carried railfans and rodeo fans to Cheyenne Frontier Days, which featured a rodeo. The train was typically led by one of Union Pacific’s steam locomotives, No. 844 or No. 3985, but it occasionally featured E9 and Centennial diesels instead.
In this first production run, we are excited to offer eight versions: the UP shield, the New Mexico and Arizona Centennial appearances, four Frontier Days appearances (2010, 2011, 2014, and 2016), and a primer gray car with black trucks. Every car includes BLI’s easy-to-use touch-control lighting.
