Ju 87G-1 Stuka, Tank Buster - Academy 12450
The German Junkers Ju-87 Stuka was the most famous dive bomber of the Second World War. The later versions were equipped with a larger 1400 (hp) Jumo 211 J (or P) engine and produced in numbers exceeding 1,500. The Ju87 “Gustav” entered development as an anti-tank aircraft and was equipped with a pair of 37mm cannons. The legendary tank Ace Oberst (Colonel) Hans Ulrich Rudel flew this aircraft. Tank-busting was Rudel's specialty, and his input led to placing the 37mm Flak cannons beneath the aircraft's wings. The Stuka's new tactics would focus on the rear portion of the tanks, which were lightly armored and proved weak to fire from above. Throughout Rudel's career, he managed an astounding 500 kills. This Academy kit with over 70 plastic parts faithfully recreates the Ju 87G-1 Stuka "Tank Buster" in 1/72 scale.
