Description

The Spitfire Mk.VI and Mk.VII were high-altitude fighters developed against the high-altitude bombers of the Luftwaffe , but
because the feared enemy bombers were not invading,
the pressurized cabins that were no longer needed were removed and the aircraft was rebuilt
as a regular aircraft. The fighter version was the Spitfire Mk.VIII.

 

However, due to delays in mass production, the Mk.IX was introduced to replace the Mk.VIII
in order to compete with the Luftwaffe's Fw109A .

 


The Mk.IX was equipped with minimal improvements to the existing Mk.Vc aircraft and a Merlin 61 engine, and the first mass-produced aircraft was completed in June 1942,
with a total of approximately 5,600 aircraft of each type being produced by June 1945.
The main type of aircraft produced is the low altitude (LF) equipped with a Merlin 66 engine,
followed by the medium altitude (F) with a Marine 61 or 63 engine, which is over 1,000, and
