Description

The Type 4 fighter aircraft Shippuu (Ki-84) is a combat aircraft produced by Nakajima, a prestigious company that produced
the main army fighter aircraft of the 97 Sen (Ki-27), Hayabusa (Ki-43), and Shoki (Ki-44).
It was
equipped with a 2000 horsepower class Ha-45 engine, and had
excellent speed and maneuverability, as well as powerful armament and bullet resistance.

When it was decided to adopt the standard at the end of March 1945, it
was produced under the name "Greater East Asia Battle Machine" and
fought hard in the defense of mainland China, the Philippines, Okinawa, and the mainland.
Particularly in mainland China, the aircraft was on par with the likes of the P-51, and
was so successful that it temporarily regained air superiority.

However, after mass production began, problems arose due to a
decline in materials and workmanship, resulting in poor engine performance, but despite these adverse conditions, approximately 3,500 aircraft were produced, including the Zero Fighter and Hayabusa.

After the war, the Shippu was tested in the United States and was praised as
``the best Japanese fighter that appeared in the Pacific War.''
