Description
MIG-21 Fishbed - Academy 12442
The MIG-21 is a top-rated supersonic aircraft that started production in the 1950s. The aircraft can achieve Mach 2 and has seen use with at least 56 air forces in over 30 countries, with an estimated 10,000 aircraft seeing service just in the Soviet Union. During the Vietnam conflict, the MiG-21 rivaled the performance of the F-105 and F-4 Phantom. The variant of the MiG-21 presented here (listed as 1/72 scale, but is actually 1/67) is the MiG-21 (NATO name Fishbed) produced in 1966. It featured many upgrades, including advanced avionic systems, radars, and a new 23mm cannon that was added based on the weapon's effectiveness during the Vietnam conflict. Those produced after 1968 were fitted with Kh-66 air-to-surface missiles. The fully assembled model is 20.6cm long and 5.6cm tall.
